Catman Bill Anchors on March 11th

Bill Katz, ”Catman Bill,” a Hartford native, who composes and sings songs of conscience, owns his own picture framing business, Katz Framing. He is also a cat rescuer and he is associated with Connecticut Cat Connection of Windsor.

Bill “Catman” Katz is a frequent 150 Prospect performer who will be our anchor on March 11th. His first musical composition was created in 1975 as a tribute to his then newborn niece.
Today his songs have been described as “Songs of Conscience.” Once, as he delivered a work of art to a client on Fifth Avenue in New York, the client proudly showed him a huge set of elephant ivory tusks draping his mantelpiece. “I stood in silence and just stared at them knowing the violence that precipitated the taking of this magnificent creature for someone’s adornment. As I rode the Metro North home that day I knew it was a sad moment that needed to be recorded in some fashion and I began writing a song,” Katman said.
He and a friend, Alex Forbes, polished the tune and submitted it to a contest sponsored by March for Elephants located in Capetown, South Africa. Their song won. Today, they are exploring a new avenue to reach a global audience beyond the marches that they have organized. Hopefully soon, there will be global concerts to save elephant and rhinos.

“I am motivated to write about this and other social and humanistic causes. I still believe that a song can change the world — somehow,” Catman said.
